Gas Safety Shut-Off Valve Repair

An automatic gas safety shut-off valve only has one job: close fully and quickly when the interlock tells it to. If it sticks, buzzes, passes gas or drops out at random, it needs testing and repairing properly — not resetting.

  • Closure timing and tightness tested, not assumed
  • Coils and complete valves in stock, RP 3/4" to RP 2"
  • Certificate issued after every repair or replacement

The test we carry out

  • Coil resistance and supply voltage at the valve
  • Closure on emergency stop, fan fail and power loss
  • Tightness test of the downstream carcass
  • Working pressure at the appliances at full gas rate
  • Interlock function test and certification

If you can smell gas

  • Turn off the gas at the emergency control valve and press the emergency stop button
  • Do not switch anything electrical on or off, and do not use naked flames
  • Open doors and windows, evacuate and keep people clear
  • Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999
  • Only then call us to make the installation safe and return it to service

Frequently asked questions

Can a safety shut-off valve be serviced?

It should be function-tested annually and the coil is replaceable, but a valve that passes gas or sticks is replaced — the seal cannot be safely repaired in situ.

How long should a valve last?

Ten years or more in a clean, cool position; far less in a hot, greasy plant room or where it cycles constantly because of interlock faults.

Do you carry replacements?

Yes — normally closed gas solenoid valves from RP 3/4" to RP 2" are stock items, so most repairs are completed on the first visit.

Will the kitchen be out of action for long?

Usually a couple of hours for a like-for-like valve change including testing and certification.
